Sports Ministry slams media houses over Black Stars bonus

The Deputy Sports Minister, Vincent Oppong Asamoah, has blamed the ministry’s excessive injection of cash into the Black Stars at the expense of other sports disciplines on the incessant pressure from the media.

With less than 18 days to the 2015 All Africa Games, the Sports Ministry has been unable to release funds to the 16 qualified disciplines for their residential camping.

Yet, the Sports Ministry has come under intense criticism from some sports analysts to ensure the Black Stars winning bonuses from the 2017 Afcon qualifying triumph over Mauritius are settled.

“Day in and day out, you (Media) people keep saying to the Ministry, why are you not paying their (Black Stars) bonuses. Why are you not asking why we are not paying the fee we promised some athletes.

“When we were going for the Commonwealth Games, we had to pay some of them $3000 but nobody is questioning that so why are you not questioning us on that.

Every time pay Black Stars, pay Black Stars,” Oppong Asamoah told Starr FM in an interview.
