Chief in Trouble For Endorsing President Mahama

The Paramount Chief of Sunyani, Nana Bosoma Asor Nkrawiri, has incurred the wrath of some residents within the Sunyani municipality and its environs for openly endorsing President John Dramani Mahama during his tour of the Brong Ahafo Region.

Nana Bosoma Asor in a public gathering in honour of the president currently on his tour of #Changinglives  promised him 80% of votes from the region come 2016.

The 80% is a promise. Other regions can promise 50% but we are going to give you 80%”. The Chief Assured

But the chief has come under scathing attack from residents and leaders of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the region for taking such a stance when chiefs per the laws of the country have been barred from active politics.

Deputy General Secretary of the NPP Nana Obiri Boahen condemned the utterances of the chief indicating that he is bringing the name of his chieftaincy institution into disrepute.

“He has no authority to promise the president 80% votes from the region. Is he now the campaign coordinator of the President in the region or a regional executive of the NDC?” He queried

The ruling NDC in the 2012 elections polled 511,244 from the Brong Ahafo Region representing 51.49% whilst their main rival, the New Patriotic Party led by Nana Akufo-Addo had 469,909 representing 47.33%. The NPP  is determined to win more votes from the region and which hitherto was one of its strongholds.
