Afoko Heads to Court

Credible information reaching indicate that beleaguered National Chairman of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) Mr. Paul Awentami Afoko is heading to court to quash a decision by the National Executive Committee (NEC) to suspend him indefinitely.

A close associate to the Mr. Afoko hinted that his lawyers earlier this morning sought an injunction from an Accra High Court restraining the 1st Vice Chairman of the party Mr. Freddie Blay from convening and superintending over a supposed NEC that took the decision a while ago.

Mr. Afoko in a press release issued earlier today argues that he is the right person per the constitution of the party to call for such meetings when he is within jurisdiction and not his deputy

According to our sources, NEC has been served with the injunction while efforts are underway by lawyers of Mr. Afoko to seek the courts mandate in nullifying any decision taken at today’s meeting which unanimously endorsed his indefinite suspension from the party.

News some hours ago went virile that Chairman Paul Afoko has been suspended indefinitely and the 1st Vice Chairman of the party Freddie Blay has taken over as acting Chairman of the Elephant family.

This follows a petition by Council of Elders to the Disciplinary committee of the party asking Afoko to step aside for working against the interest of the party.

The petition called for Afoko to be suspended until after the 2016 elections.

The decision to suspended Afoko is expected be announced after a National Executive Committee meeting which is currently underway.
