The Chief Policy Analyst of the Ghana Institute for Public Policy Options (GIPPO) Dr. Charles Wereko-Brobbey says the issue of a bloated voters’ register is not peculiar to Ghana as the United States of America (USA) is faced with a similar challenge.
According to him, the U.S government is worried about the developments in Ghana regarding major concerns raised by various pressure groups about the register.
‘This morning I received WhatApp saying that, the U.S government was worried about what is going on here,’ he revealed.
He said even the advanced countries have worries about their bloated voters’ register.
‘There is a report last month on 136 counties in the United States, which reveal more than 100% of the voting age,’ he said.
He indicated that with all its sophisticated system, they are faced with a bloated register.
‘This is a country that has got the most sophisticated and advanced identification systems but still have bloated register problems,’ he pointed out.
He said it’s a good sign that this survey is coming from the USA and that they are closely watching happenings in Ghana.
‘It’s rich that the US is watching us. We need to be a little careful about how much call we put on our voter’s register’.
