A group calling itself ‘Concerned Youth for Asawasi Constituency’ has presented a petition to President John Mahama through the Ashanti Regional Minister, Peter Anarfi Mensah for the removal of the Municipal Chief Executive Officer (MCE) of Asokore Mampong Assembly Nurudeen Hamidan.
Some of the protesters were spotted carrying placards with the inscriptions ‘Nuru must go, greedy MCE, thief MCE, We don’t want Nuru, MCE is banished, skirt and blouse 2016, power drunkard MCE’ among other inscriptions chanted war songs as they marched to the Regional Coordinating Council.
Others were wearing T-shirts with the picture of the MCE embossed with the writing ‘MCE must go to pave way for peace in the community’
The Group’s Organiser, Mumin Idris said the President should replace the MCE with someone with a listening ear.
‘He has been tagged as a demolition man, chasing people from their homes. If you are appointed into office, you don’t have to take the law into your hands and do things your way. There are laws governing all of us and we should abide by them. We want the President to change the MCE for us. He has engaged himself in land issues which are not his job. It is not his duty to be demolishing properties, chasing us out of our homes. We know you are a listening President and you will listen to us. There are better people who can do the job’.
Receiving the petition on behalf of the Regional Minister, the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Director, Nana Yaw Asuobonten assured the aggrieved party youth that he will ensure that the Regional Minister receives the petition for appropriate action to be taken.
‘I thank you for comporting yourselves in a civilised manner, the Minister will receive the petition,’ he assured.
