The Paramount Chief of Nangodi Traditional Area in the Nabdam District of the Upper East Region, Naaba Yelzoya Joseph Asaga II has warned against the act of killing deformed children often tagged as evil children.
The Chief, who made the pronouncement at the commissioning of a Resource Centre for persons with disability in Kongo, warned that his palace will not deal leniently with persons caught in the act.
According to him, no one is born evil and therefore discounted the belief by section of residents that some children are cursed from birth as outrageous and inhumane calling for collaboration in fighting the age-old practice.
He lamented that a lot of young people continue to suffer various forms of abuses because they were born with deformity and as a result are tagged bad omen or cursed by family members who in some cases endorsed they should be killed.
Naaba Yelzoya Joseph Asaga II, urged residents to eschew stigmatization and maltreatment of people living with disability as they can contribute their quota to the development of society.
He entreated the people of his traditional area to report anyone engaged in killing “cursed or evil children) to him or other appropriate authorities for prosecution.
“I encourage the Kongo Union of Disabled Society (KUDS), to continue with their good contribution towards community development”, he urged.
