Yilo Krobo: Primary school shutdown over teacher absenteeism

Teachers at the Tsakatsakam Primary School in the Yilo Krobo district of the Eastern region have vacated post since school reopened months ago.

Traditional authorities in the area have closed down the school as a result of the situation. Hundreds of children who are unable to walk long distances to other schools have dropped out of school.

Starr News has learnt that traders are now using the school as a resting and storage facility.

The Member of Parliament for the area Kofi Amoatey told Starr News the development is unacceptable.

“It is unacceptable to have a school building of this nature here and it’s not functional.

“The complaint is that the teachers are not coming to school, they were not punctual in school and rather the teachers also went to complain that when they came the students were not in school and so they closed down the school.

“I will hold the director of education responsible because if you have this and there are no teachers, she should take steps to find out why there were no teachers and pupils in the school,” he fumed.
