Fire Monday dawn razed over ten shops and eight vehicles at the largest artisan engineering cluster in the sub-Sahara Africa/West Africa, Suame Magazine in the Ashanti Region.
Suame Magazine is an industrialised area with many workshops for metal engineering and vehicle repairs in Ghana, employing an estimated 200,000 workers.
According to an eye witness Kwame Boadi, the inferno which started around 12:am caused damages to properties worth millions of Ghana cedis.
The artisans blamed the huge damage of their properties on the Ghana Fire Service, saying the harm could have subdued if they had arrived on time.
They explained that it was difficult reaching the fire service personnel to the scene, saying it took the fire fighters one hour before they arrived.
‘When they came all the vehicles and shops were burnt,’ they lamented.
An eye witness claimed the fire could have erupted due to electrical fault, but the Ghana Service is yet to investigate the cause of the fire
