The Ejisu branch Executives of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Ashanti Region have vowed to resist attempts to impose embattled former Municipal Chief Executive (MCE), Afrifa Yamoah Ponko on them.
According to them, if the President sees him as a good administrative material, he should instead appoint him as Deputy Minister of the Region, saying they cannot see anything good in him and therefore does not merit being MCE for the area.
The group threatened not vote for the party in the upcoming 2016 elections if the re-appointment of Yamoah Ponko is not revoked.
The group is calling on the party’s national executives to rescind its decision to suspend the Parliamentary Candidate for the area, Gloria Huzey who alleged that the re-appointed MCE paid a bribe of 4million Ghana cedis to the Minister of Local Government, Collins Dauda for his re-appointment.
‘If National Executive Committee (NEC) and the President Mahama want to give him position, the Deputy Regional Minister’s position is vacant, if the Gloria Huzey is suspended, its means the whole of NDC Ejisu is suspended, we will not vote,’ they pointed out.
‘We made it clear to our Regional and National Executives that after the first term of Yamoah Ponko, we demonstrated that we don’t need him again. We don’t understand why he has been re-appointed. He never helped us when he was in office. His management was very poor, even though he was appointed as MCE to work within the municipality; he was supposed to manage the party as well because it was the party that voted for the president to nominate him. His attitude towards the party members especially the branch is very poor,’ the irate group said.
The Executives suggested to the Disciplinary Committee to invite Gloria Huzey to present her case.
‘We have much interest in her suspension, why shouldn’t the disciplinary committee and regional executives invite both Gloria Huzey and Yamoah Ponko to defend themselves. This is not fair, she only heard on social media that she is been suspended. People of Ejisu do not like Yamoah Ponko, he lost massively in the just ended primaries,’ they asserted.
