The Ghana Education Service (GES) has with immediate effect canceled all transfer grants due teachers who may have been penciled for transfer or have been transferred already.
A number of teachers in the country have on several occasions complained that they have been transferred to some locations in the country and per the conditions of service of the GES, are entitled to transfer grants which have not been paid despite several follow-ups.
But the GES in response to the affected teachers concerns say it has placed a moratorium on transfer grants even though it failed to give reasons for its latest decision.
The decision which has been communicated to all Divisional Directors of the GES in a letter with reference number GES/HQ//HRM/15/65 dated October 20th , 2015 and signed by the Director General Jacob A.M. Kor warned of sanctions for erring Directors.
A copy of the letter sighted by ultimate1069.com read: “Following our meeting in Tamale and the current issues on transfers in the Service, I wish to formally inform you that all transfers warranting payment of transfer grants are frozen with immediate effect”
It added; “Any Director who transfers or assures a staff of a place under his/her jurisdiction for transfer shall be responsible for the payment of such transfer grants”.
The concluding part of the letter circulated to various bodies who may be concerned in the latest action categorically asked all recipients to treat it as urgent.
