A 32-year old farmer Nicholas Laar has been arrested by officials of the Domestic Violence and Victim Support Unit (DOVVSU) in Bunkpurugu for flogging his wife with an iron rod leaving her with multiple wounds.
The victim Abiba Duut a 28-year old trader, is currently on admission at the Faith Community Hospital in Bunkpurugu receiving treatment.
According to police investigators, a misunderstanding ensued between the two over the molding of bricks and as to who had the final authority to determine the person to be allowed to do the work.
Abiba reportedly contracted someone to mold the bricks which did not go down well with the suspect who questioned the authority of his wife and demanded she abrogates the contract with the said person so he could do it himself.
The woman disagreed stating that the job was almost done and there was no need for his intervention considering the fact he had earlier stated his unwillingness to do the job.
The comments of Abiba, were said to have further infuriated her husband but he uttered no word and left the scene to town.
After supper that evening while the victim was fast asleep, the suspect picked the iron rod and started flogging her amidst loud screams in view of the fact the metal was piercing some parts of her body.
Her screams attracted the police patrol team in the area who moved towards that direction, but the husband on hearing the sound of an approaching vehicle, run into hiding and left his wife wailing.
The police combed round the vicinity and succeeded in arresting the suspect from his hideout.
He was whisked to the police station and his caution statement admitted the offence but blamed it on the devil.
He has since been remanded by a Nalerigu District Magistrate Court presided over by Robert Agbleze to reappear on December 17, 2015 to allow for the full recovery of the victim who is a key witness in the case.
