Water, Electricity Coys Cut Tamale Orphanage

Water and Electricity supply to the Tamale Orphanage has been cut for the past six months because managers of the home are unable to offset bills owed the two utility companies.

The home according to records sighted by ultimate1069.com owes the Ghana Water Company Limited (GWCL) in the region to the tune of GH₵ 6,000 and has not been able to offset the amount because the home has not received government’s subvention for close to two years now.

This has however resulted in abrupt cut of water supply to the orphanage since September last year.

The orphanage it has also been established, is unable to purchase power since the Northern Electricity   Distribution Company (NEDCO) changed the post-paid meters at the orphanage to pre-pared meters leaving the disadvantaged inmates in darkness at night.

In the wake of the numerous challenges the orphanage is going through coupled with the approval of the recent tariff hike by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC), management of the orphanage say the increment will be detrimental to the upkeep of inmates in the orphanage.

Proprietor of the home, Augustina Quainoo told ultimate1069.com, that the situation of the orphanage may soon worsen since the quarterly funds from government to the orphanage is not forthcoming.

“Zoomlion is our only rescue now in terms of water. They provide us with tanker services occasionally. Even though, they receive no money for the water, we are required to fuel the tanker in order to get water”, she lamented
