The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission (EC), Madam Charlotte Osei has debunked claims that she is a Nigerian and not a Ghanaian.
The EC Boss’ who explained that her step father is a Nigerian, and that she attended schools in Nigerian, could not affirm or deny whether she is a Nigerian or not.
There has been news making rounds in the political circles that she is a Nigerian and not a Ghanaian and that her position is questionable.
‘My mother married to my step father who is a Nigerian, I went to school in Nigeria, does that make me a Nigerian and I also went to School at Canada does it make me Canadian ?,’ she asked.
Asked on Morning Starr hosted by Nii Arday Clegg if she is a Nigerian, the EC Chairperson said it depends on what the constitution states.
‘It depends on the constitution that we use,’ she explained.
She refuted allegations that she attempted to contest as a National Democratic Congress (NDC) Member of Parliament (MP).
‘I have never ran for a political office for or with any party, in fact I have never been a member of a political party, I have never attended a political party’s meetings, am pretty apolitical, people who know me can tell, it was a lovely surprise to wake up one morning to see my campaign posters, we had a good laugh at it, I have lots of siblings outside the country who saw the poster on social media and called and were like when did this happen,…. it was a nice poster,’ she said.
Madam Osei described the former EC Boss’ Dr. Afari Gyan as a total icon on the political field.
