Irked residents of Manyatta village lynched a 20-year-old man who raped a 50-year-old woman after he gained access to her house at around midnight.
Confirming the incident, Embu North OCPD James Karisa said that the suspect, Kennedy Mukundi, managed to enter the home of the woman hitting her with a blunt object before committing the heinous act.
“The woman fell after he was hit by the suspect. It is at that point that he raped her. When she regained consciousness, she raised an alarm attracting the attention of her neighbors who beat him up,” he said.
“Police arrived at the scene and took the suspect to Embu Level Five hospital where he died while receiving treatment,” he clarified.
The woman narrated her ordeal revealing that she was attacked while she was seated in her sitting room. She had heard someone walking outside her house and decided to peep through the window in order to confirm who the intruder was.
“When I heard someone walking outside I decided to open the door but I did not realize that I had given the suspect an opportunity to gain entrance into the house. He hit me and I fell, when I regained consciousness I screamed attracting neighbors who came to my rescue,” she said.
Karisa said incidences of young men attacking elderly and single women with the aim of rapping them are on the rise in the area adding that police are on high alert and will be closing in on those out to commit the act.
Last December, it was reported that a 40-year-old woman at Shinyalu in Kakamega County was found dead with police investigations indicating that she had been raped before being hacked to death.
