Hunter shoots colleague, Says he mistook him for a Grasscutter

A 29-year old hunter Anthony Kwame has gunned down his colleague identified as Simon Gbemu 43 years, after  he mistook him for a grasscutter during hunting expedition at Asasekokor near Adawso in the Akuapem North Municipality of the Eastern Region.

The suspect has however been arrested by the Police.

The Deputy Eastern Regional Public Relations Officer of the Ghana Police Service, Sgt Gideon Boateng who confirmed the incident to Ultimate news’ Kojo Ansah explained that the suspect admitted the offence during interrogation.

‘During the hunting expedition, I realized the leaves were shaking in the bush so I suspected it to could be an animal and shot at that direction killing my colleague instantly,’ the suspect confessed.

This is the second time in two weeks that a similar incident has happened after it was  reported that a 72-year-old hunter , Kwabena Adu, shot a 40-year-old farmer while hunting at Anum in the Asuogyaman District also of the Eastern Region last two weeks.

The Eastern Regional Police Commander, DCOP Angwubotoge Awuni has vowed to clamped down on hunters in possession of unregistered arms.
