Executive Director of Legal Resource Center (LRC), Daphne Lariba Nabila has disclosed that the Center’s main focus for this year among other things is fostering peace ahead of the 2016 general elections.
LRC she indicated has been noted for working on legal issues after every presidential and parliamentary election and is currently developing learning materials for local languages such as Dagbani, Wale, Grune, Hausa, Twi and Ga for the understanding of every Ghanaian.
Lawyer, Lariba observed that, Ghana has perfect laws but the implementations is always the major problem indicating that the only way to ensure the implementations is educating the citizenry on basic legal issues.
She was not happy that the media and even aggrieved parties in elections particularly parliamentary aspirants abandon the issues at the courts at their peak.
She took journalists through electoral laws, offenses and punishment of people who violate electoral rules and urged all stakeholders to ensure incident free 2016 elections and reiterated the need for all political parties and aggrieved parties in the upcoming elections to resort to courts in addressing their grievances rather than violence.
