Police to burn marijuana farms in Eastern Region

In its quest to clamp down on wee cultivation, the Eastern Regional Police Command has initiated plans to burn marijuana farms in the region.

This follows 204 large bags of marijuana retrieved at Apesika a farming community at Kwahu East and subsequent seizure of 4589 parcels of the substances concealed in 64 bags kept in poultry feed within a spate of a week.

Meanwhile, 12 persons have been arrested in connection with this arrest.

Years ago, the police carried out series of raids in cannabis farms in which large hectares of fertilized wee farms cultivated in middle of crops ostensibly to outwit Police were set ablaze in some part of the region especially, Krobo area.

Narcotic peddlers across the region troop to the region to buy the harvested marijuana in large quantities.

The upsurge in wee farming has raised public outcry as it poses danger to health and security of residents in the region.
