The Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo) has sensitized assembly members of the Tamale Metropolitan Assembly on the operations and challenges the company is currently undergoing in the Northern Region.
The initiative is part of series of sensitization fora for identifiable groups and organizations in the region on the company’s modus operandi.
The session was to update members of the assembly on the recent happenings in the power sector as well as members taking the opportunity to ask the lingering questions for redress.
The forum was also meant to address and highlighted the recent tariff adjustment and certain key decisions taken by NEDCo and matters arising.
The Acting Managing Director of the Northern Electricity Distribution Company (NEDCo), Engineer Frank Akiligo admonished members of the assembly to cooperate and support the company to deliver quality service to residents of the metropolis.
He assured members of the assembly NEDCo’s determination and resolves to provide quality service to the people within the metropolis.
The Presiding Member of the assembly, Abubakari Takoro was exited since according to him, the education accorded members the opportunity to clear the erroneous impression the public and members have about the NEDCo.
He indicated that as assembly members, they owe it a duty to educate their people on energy conservation to avert any future crisis in the energy sector.
Communication Manager at NEDCo, Maxwell Kookaburra revealed that the company has procured over 90,000 prepaid meters to for mass installation and replacement of post paid meters in the region.
This he said will help reduce the revenue mobilization deficit of NEDCo but mentioned financial constraints, inadequate economic customers, large operational area with low customer density, Non-payment of bills by customers and illegal connections as the challenges that hinders the progress and successful service delivery of the company.
