ECG ‘Outrageous” Billing to be Investigated

Government has disclosed that it will commence investigations into the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) recent billing system which has generated public outcry.

Minister of Communications, Dr. Edward Omane Boamah revealed that government has received numerous complaints from residential and business customers of the ECG about suspected anomalies in their bills following the last adjustment in utility tariffs by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).

He added that it has therefore instructed the PURC to investigate the numerous complaints to establish its credibility or otherwise.

According to the minister, users of electricity complained that the anomalies are affecting their income and operating costs, the reason they are calling on government to intervene.

CAR WASH ART-NEWThe PURC has also been tasked to ensure that the ECG rectifies the billing system to reflect the tariffs approved by them.

The ECG has also been directed to “cooperate effectively” with the PURC and the Energy Commission to ensure speedy resolution of the suspected anomaly in the billing system.

Meanwhile, consumers have also been encouraged to present to the PURC their complaints with accompanying receipts and bills to help with the investigative process.
