Maxwell Owusu and Jonathan Quartey have won the maiden edition of the Patrons’ Day Tennis Double Championship at the 4 Garrison Officers’ Mess Tennis Club, whilst Mariam Mamud and Mrs. Peggy OppongBawuah also won the women’s edition.
The event which was hugely patronized was full of excitement.
Maxwell Owusu and Jonathan Quartey beat Brig. Gen. Adjei and ACP AdusahPoku by 6-1 to win the title. They also beat Kofi Affum Baffoe and Augustine Boateng 6-2 in the semi finals.
They had earlier conquered Samuel Ampadu-Kyei and Emile King by 6-1 in the quarter finals.
They also defeated Eric Agyare and Kwabena Asiamah 6-1.
The ladies edition also saw the champions Mariam and Peggy beating Brenda Sutinga and Paulina Asemiteng 6-3 in the finals.
They had earlier conquered Maame Afua Danso and Alice Osei Tutu by 6-3.
In other games, Brig Gen Adjei and ACP Adusah Poku beat Anthony Wularu and Alex Yeboah Asuamah by 6-4. Brig Gen Adjei and ACP Adusah Poku again beat Sammy Adu Baoakye and Thomas Campbell 7-6. Miss Dziafa Ahorlu and Brenda Bangdome also beat Bridgette Sutinga and Linda Maysel Oduro by 6-1.
Mr. Chris Egeh, on behalf of the patron of the club commended the Executives for the honour done them and also thanked all for making the day a huge success.
In his closing remarks, the President of the Club Mr. Samuel Ampadu-Kyei also expressed the club’s appreciation to the Patrons for the day and the sponsorship.
He was particularly grateful to other sponsors of the tournament.
He remarked that the club will do its best to institutionalize the Patrons Day.
