A copy of an autopsy report conducted on 22-year old Kojo Tawiah who was alleged to have been brutalized to death by a police patrol team at Krofrom in the Ashanti Region has revealed that the deceased died of a natural cause.
Dr. Osei Sampene a Pathologist with Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH), who conducted the exercise, revealed that the victim suffered congestive heart failure and biventricular cardiac dilatation.
All these he indicated were natural causes resulting in his death.
According to an eyewitness account, police were chasing two men who were on a motorbike. The deceased was then inside a public toilet but when he stepped out, the police confronted him, suspecting he was one of the two riders they were pursuing.
The eyewitness said the police immediately started beating him with the butt of their guns as well as using tasers to subdue him.
He said not even the pleas of some residents for the police to treat the man with dignity yielded any results. The police continued their assault until Tawiah dropped and fell unconscious.
Tawiah was later reported dead attracting the fury of irate youth of Krofrom who went on rampage in protest of his death accusing the police of negligence and unprofessionalism.
