All four bank accounts of the former Chief Executive Officer of the National Health Insurance Authority (NHIA), Sylvester Mensah have been unfrozen following an order by An Accra high court.
The accounts including an Access Bank, United Bank for Africa (UBA), Energy Bank and Ecobank accounts were frozen by an Accra Financial and Economic court following an ex-parte application made by the Financial Intelligence Center.
The financial intelligence unit (FIU) a national centre for the receipt and analysis of claimed it suspected: (a) suspicious transaction reports; and (b) other information relevant to money laundering, associated predicate offences and financing of terrorism and therefore demanded the named accounts be frozen.
The former Member of Parliament (MP) for La Dade-Kotopon was arrested and detained on New Year’s Day after armed BNI operatives besieged his residence at Tse Addo, near the Trade Fair in Accra, the previous night (December 31, 2015)
He was allegedly implicated in the scandal after some service providers who were being interrogated by the BNI fingered him during investigations.
