Euro 2016: England see off Wales, Poland hold Germany

England claimed their first win of this year’s European Championship, after they came from behind to beat Wales 2-1 on Thursday.

Gareth Bale put his country ahead, after his free-kick from well over 35 yards, beat Joe Hart.

After the break, Roy Hodgson introduced Daniel Sturridge and Jamie Vardy for Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane. Vardy’s impact was instant, levelling in the 56th minute.

Sturridge ensured England took all three points with a smart finish in stoppage time.

In the second game, Northern Ireland stunned Ukraine 2-0, thanks to goals from Gareth McAuley and Niall McGinn.

Poland held Germany to the first 0-0 draw of the tournament.
