MTN furnishes ICT lab of Edwenase Rehabilitation Centre, donates 10 computers

Students, who require special needs and care at the Edwenase Rehabilitation Centre in Kumasi, can now rub shoulders with other children in the growing world of ICT.

This is because telecom giant, MTN has given a facelift to the Centre’s ICT laboratory and donated 10 sets of computers and its accessories.

The donation by the network forms part of MTN’s 21 Days of Y’ello Care which ended on Tuesday.

Presenting the materials to the Rehab Centre, Corporate Services Advisor for MTN Northern Sector, Charity Darko assured that the network will continue to invest in people through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR).

“The Edwenase Rehabilitation Center has benefitted from the Y’ello Care activity before but we chose to come back here after a number of years because we realized or we are fully aware that there are several needs that they have; one of which is the setting up of the ICT center.

They received ten brand new computers and accessories and like I said we are setting up an ICT center for them.

Apart from the 21 Days of Y’ello Care, we have our focus areas of support constantly throughout the year through the MTN Ghana Foundation so certainly we are going to have CSR donations to other communities within the year, Charity Darko mentioned.

On his part, Manager of the Edwenase Rehabilitation Centre, Modesto Ayiwoli was full of praise to MTN for the kind gesture.

He added that the ICT lab will go a long way to benefit every child in the community.

“Many times we have sent proposals to some organizations but it appears they do not have any self belief in the children and so they had always turned down our request for computers for them.

And so for MTN to have this belief in the children and to present them with this computer lab, it’s a great event in the life of the center and we are so grateful.

What is important is that we are going to make sure these children no matter their circumstances also get acquainted with computers; even if they use them to play games it is very important in their lives”, Mr. Ayiwoli hinted.

21 Days of Y’ello Care, since 2007, has become one of the important periods on MTN’s calendar.

Staff of MTN from June 1 to June 21 engage in volunteerism and activities that will make positive impact on their communities.
