Angry supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) in the Wa West District of the Upper West Region on Saturday went on rampage in protest against the president’s nominee as District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area.
Mr Basiera Saankara was a among three others nominated by the president in accordance with Article 243(1) of the 1992 Constitution and section 20(1) of the Local Government Act, (Act 462) to occupy the vacant districts.
The decision was however said to have angered the supporters of the NDC in the areabecause their preferred choice had not been nominated leading to the violence.
They were reported to have vandalized and burnt the party’s Mahindra campaign vehicle accusing some power blocs including the Member of Parliament (MP) for the area Joseph Yielle Chireh of masterminding the nomination of Basiera Saankara.
It took the timely intervention of armed police men in the area to restore calm.
