Investigations into Asawase stampede begin

The Asokore Mampong Security Council has begun investigations into deaths that occurred on Wednesday night at Asawase , a suburb of Kumasi in the Ashanti Region.

9 persons including 6  females and 3 males lost their lives at a Sala Jams marked  after yesterday’s Islamic Eid-Ul-Fitr celebrations.

There are conflicting accounts regarding the actual  cause of the stampede at the Asawase Community Centre which led to the fatalities.

The deceased were trapped on the walkway of the exit gate of the Asawase Community center when a false alarm was raised that there was going to be a rancour between two musicians Fancy Gadam and another billed to perform at the event.

Out of fear and panic, participants started running for their lives.

The Bureau of National Investigations (BNI)  and the police have been stationed at the ground.
