70% of Pregnancies Risk Miscarriage before 28 Weeks- Gynaecologist

An Obstetcrian Gynaecologist at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) Dr. Kwadwo Sarbeng has revealed that about 70% of pregnancies are at risk of miscarriages before 28 weeks.

According to him, most of the cases are not induced but it could be as result of the pregnancy not properly formed, babies with visible abnormalities and those that can lead to cancers in the mothers.

He revealed that most pregnant women are not aware they are carrying seeds but only report to health facilities with complaints of delayed menstrual circle.

“Most of them have delayed menses, they come to the hospital to complain and weeks later when they bleed it is very heavy. When you conduct pregnancy test it proves positive meaning there was some formation ongoing in the womb”, he said

The Gynaecologist explained that once such victims begin to bleed, it is heavy suggesting that there was a formation of a baby but as a result of certain undesirable conditions, it triggers the abortion.

Speaking on the Ultimate Breakfast Show hosted by Lantam Papanko, Dr. Kwadwo Sarbeng indicated that not all abortions are bad because some naturally occur.

“Its Gods way of dealing with the bad ones. There are a lot of abortions that occur with the women involved not aware they are pregnant”, he said.
