Drug Peddler Nabbed at Empekom

A 34-year-old drug peddler, Jonathan Dada has been arrested by the Asamankese police for possessing 10 bags of compressed leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.

The suspect was arrested at Empekom, a suburb of Asamankese in the Eastern region in an attempt to transport the bags of Marijuana to Dodowa in the Greater Accra region.

Two other accomplices are said to be on the run.

A member of the Neighbourhood Watch Committee of Empekom told Ultimate News, they were embarking on their routine surveillance  in the community at about 2:30 am Tuesday when they became suspicious of the activities of the three suspects. “They were actually standing behind a taxi cab in the darkness in an attempt to load the bags so we approached them but two managed to escape”, he revealed

Asamankese Divisional Police Commander Chief Superintendent Wisdom Akorli confirming the incident to Ultimate News said  the police received calls from the Neighbourhood Watch Committee and quickly dispatched men to the scene.

He explained that, the Opel taxi cab with registration number ER 597N on board by the suspects has been impounded while the suspect is in police custody assisting investigation.

Chief Superintendent Akorli said the exhibits will be sent to a Laboratory for examination to aid prosecution.
