Escapees used ‘urine & water’ to create hole- ACP Oduro Kwarteng

The Offinso Divisional Police Commander in the Ashanti Region, ACP Oduro Kwarteng has hinted that the six escapees from the Abofour police cell created a hole with ‘urine and water’ in the cell with the aid of an implement enabling their escape.

The police have so far re-arrested two out of the six escapees including Kofi Agyare aka ‘Bongo’ and Iddrisu Yahaya, aka ‘K2’ at Kwapanin 15km from Abofour and Sekyere Odumase near Odwira.

The two will be arraigned before court on Thursday.

‘The police cell is a mud house, so they used urine and water which soaked the building with the aid of an implement they sneaked into the cell out of negligence on the part of our officers, and scooped the sand bit by bit creating a hole for their escape,’ he disclosed this to Host of  Abusua Nkommo on Abusua 96.5 Fm Kwame Adinkrah.

Meanwhile, a 10-day ultimatum has been issued to the officers on duty to re-arrest the escapees or face sanctions by the Police Administration.

He attributed the cell break to professional negligence on the part of the officers on duty, saying punishment will be meted out to the officers.

‘The police did not aid their escape. Their action can be attributed to negligence. We have deterrent measures to check some of these negligence,’ he said.

He assured that the police will re-arrest the other four.

The six escapees include Iddrisu Yahaya, aka K2; Kofi Agyare, aka Bongo; Kwame Frimpong, aka Rambo;  Pasoley Mahmound, Baba Evans and Akwasi Grumah.
