Montie 3 jail term: Dr. Mahama applauds Supreme court

The Flagbearer of the People’s National Convention (PNC) Dr. Edward Nasigri Mahama has applauded Justices of the Supreme Court for upholding the law by jailing the three contemnors.

He said the punishment will deter others from further engaging in reckless comments that have the potential to plunge the nation into crisis and make law abiding citizens live in fear.

He took to his face book page: ‘I applaud our Justices for making this bold statement’.

Read details of his comments:

The three contemnors Alistair Nelson, Godwin Ako Gunn (members of NDC) and Salifu Maase alias Mugabe (Presenter) were on Wednesday jailed four months each by the Supreme Court.

The duo, Nelson and Gunn who were panellists on a live political show on Accra-based Montie fm threatened the lives of the Supreme Court judges and were cited for contempt.

Owners of the station were also fined GHC30.000.

Meanwhile, some bigwigs in the party such as Okudzeto Ablakwa Deputy Minister in charge of tertiary education, Tourism Minister Elizabeth Ofosu Agyare and others have already signed the petition book which seeks to solicit for signatories to be presented to the president John Dramani Mahama for a presidential pardon.

Some footsoldiers on Thursday also hit the streets, calling on the president to intervene in the matter.
