Tension is mounting at Ejura in the Ashanti Region as members of opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) on Saturday clashed with supporters of the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) over limited voter registration exercise.
Scores of NDC party faithfuls are reported to have been hospitalised around 8:15pm.
In an effort to disperse the two who have fiercely locked horns, the police are reported to have tear -gassed and sprayed pepper.
According to an eyewitness Tijani who spoke to Ultimatefmonline.com, he explained that fight ensued between some members of the two parties who accused each other of aiding minors to register their names.
He indicated that the angered NPP supporters wielded machetes inflicting injuries on NDC members and also pelted stones at the latter.
Tijani observed that members of NPP beat NDC guys to pulp leaving them helplessly on the ground.
‘I think the police are in bed with the NPP guys they just looked unconcerned and walked away after tearing gas and spraying pepper, the pictures are horrifying, the fight started yesterday but tempers were calmed,’ he said.
No arrest has been made yet.
The Police Commander for Ejura declined to comment on the matter.
The two major parties are said to be in a tug of war over developmental projects in the area.
