The Golden Eagles of Russia beat Ghana 1-0 in an international friendly Tuesday evening in Moscow at the Lokomotiv Luzhniki Petrovsky Stadium.
A first half strike from Smolov was all that Stanislav Cherchesov’s side needed to beat the Black Stars who drew one all with Rwanda in the Gabon 2017 AFCON qualifier match at the Accra sports stadium Sunday.
Thanks to John Boye who prevented Ghana from conceding more goals following his excellent display at the centre back.
Christian Atsu nearly pulled parity in the 39th minute when he hit the bar from the edge of the box after goalkeeper Akinfeev was completely beaten but that couldn’t fetch the Black Stars an equalizer.
It was a match that saw a total first half dominance from the Russian team with Ghana coming in strongly in the second half.
Ghana failed to level things up in the game after when Atsu and Jordan Ayew all missed some glorious chances that came their way.
