B/A: 2 NPP Supporters Die of Electrocution, Others Severely Injured

Two supporters of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the Sunyani East constituency of the Brong Ahafo region have been confirmed dead and two others in critical condition after they were electrocuted on Wednesday.

Constituency Communications Officer Maxwell Mahama, who confirmed the incident to ultimatefmonline.com, said they were erecting a billboard for the party’s flagbearer and parliamentary candidate when they were struck dead while raising the billboard.

According to him, the incident happened at Abesim close to Sunyani on the early hours of Wednesday.

“We contracted someone to mount our billboards for us. He turned out today and said he could start the work from Abesim. When they got to the site where they could mount one of the the billboards, they decided erecting it after posting the image on one side of the billboard. They then tried to raise the billboard but it touch the electricity high tensions cables electrocuting and killing two in the process and the other two severely injured”

He identified the deceased persons as Shani Kumi 31, and Maxwell Kyereme 23, whose bodies have been deposited at the Sunyani Government Hospital morgue pending autopsy while efforts are underway to reach out to the bereaved families

Meanwhile, the injured ones are currently receiving treatment at the same hospital.

The matter has since been reported to the Sunyani police.
