Some visually impaired persons are calling on the Electoral Commission (EC) to make available tactile jackets in the various polling stations nationwide to aid their voting in the December 7 polls.
The Tactile Jackets are perforated hard paper single fold cards made to aid the visually impaired to vote independently.
According to them, the absence of jackets at some of the polling stations in previous elections allowed some insincere persons to mislead them.
In an interview with Ultimate News on the sidelines of YEA Programme in Kumasi, some visually impaired reiterated the need for the EC not to make any such omission in the upcoming elections.
‘We are asking the EC to bring the jackets so that we can vote independently. For me, now that I know that CPP is first on the ballot and the others follow like that. If I touch it, I would see who I am voting for and the same goes for my other colleagues who the EC trained.
In 21012, I voted in Achia Krom but there was no jacket for us, even I realized that the one who helped me to vote hmmn, he didn’t vote for me rightly, what I wanted so.
In fact we are pleading that they bring along the jacket for us to vote independently,’ he appealed.
