Fifteen persons have been confirmed dead and scores injured in a gory accident that occurred on the Accra Cape Coast highway on Sunday morning.
The accident which occurred around 10:30am at Essarkyir Junction in the Ekumfi district near Mankessim involving a Yutong bus with registration number GN3973- 09 and a Sprinter mini bus with registration number AS 5622-14.
The two vehicles collided head on resulting in the death of 15 people who were mostly occupants of the sprinter bus which was on its way from Accra to Obuasi in the Ashanti region.
The injured on the other hand were mostly however passengers of the Yutong bus which was on its way from Tarkoradi to Accra.
At the time of going to the press, some of the injured had been transported to the Apam in the Gomoa West district for treatment while the bodies of the deceased persons have been deposited at the Saltpond government hospital morgue in the Mfantseman municipality of the central region.
Speaking to Starr News’ Central regional correspondent , the Ekumfi district police commander ASP Kofi Maya indicated that the police are yet to establish what led to the head on collision.
He however admonished motorists to be very careful when plying the road so as to reduce the number of accidents on the road especially when the rains are setting in and also the Christmas and election fever wears on.
