Supporters of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) in the New Juaben Municipality of the Eastern region have taken over all public toilets in the Municipality.
The rampaging supporters started the seizure operation after the swearing-in of President Nana Akufo Addo.
Even though some of the take over operations were relatively peaceful, others turned violent leading to police intervention.
The move by the NPP youth is in retaliation to similar violent take over by the supporters of the outgoing National Democratic Congress (NDC) in 2009 when the party won power.
Even though allocation of public tender went through tender process subsequently, the toilet facilities were allocated to supporters of the NDC whose contract tenure is expected to end in March 2, 2017.
Even though the NPP supporters have captured the public toilets, the party is facing internal confusion as to who is to take care of the seized facilities.
Opoku William, NPP supporter and Assemblyman is accusing the New Juaben North constituency executives of attempting to take over the seized toilet from him for their favourites.
According the New Juaben Municipal Police Commander, Superintendent Richardson Kumekor all cases reported to the police will be sent to court for a decision to be taken to serve as precedent to end such lawless conducts after change of government.
Meanwhile, the Eastern regional Police Command on Tuesday during its weekly security meeting with district Commanders directed the district commanders to intensified security in their jurisdictions.
Speaking to Ultimate News’ Kojo Ansah, the Public Relations Officer of the Eastern regional Police Commander, ASP Nketia Yeboah said the police is investigating all the cases reported.
