Ghanaians Voted For Change, Not Chaos-Manasseh Writes

From the way the leadership of the NPP is speaking, I am convinced that they have given their blessings to the madness we are witnessing nationwide. I was surprised to hear Sammi Awuku say on TV3 yesterday that the party youth were only going to protect the public places. He went on to add that some of them were attacked when NDC won power 8 years ago, a subtle justification of the attacks and seizures. I’m told Fredy Blay also said on Starr FM today that the youth are protecting the places and not attacking as people are alleging. These comments are irresponsible because what is happening should not be happening anywhere in this 21st century of civilisation. What these party thugs are doing will let many corrupt public institutions get away with it because they can hide behind these attacks and destroy vital documents and evidence.

The ultimate blame, however, should be borne by President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo. He heads the armed forces, the police and all the security agencies. It is evident that the police have folded their arms in the midst of what is happening because they fear victimisation from the political class. The security forces can stop this in 10 minutes if they are given the political support to do their work without fear or favour. The President should be reminded that he is the president of Ghana, and not the President of the NPP. A staunch believer in the constitution and the rule of law should give us some semblance of sanity. Ghanaians voted for change, not chaos!
