Younger brother of the former President, Ibrahim Mahama has disclosed that the family is kicking against the idea of the former President John Dramani Mahama contesting in the presidential race in 2020.
Some National Democratic Congress (NDC) members are reported to have called on the former President to contest in 2020 since he remains the best bet for the party.
But addressing Journalists, Mr Ibrahim explained that his elder brother has served the NDC and the country well and that it is prudent to retire from active politics.
According to him, the family is vehemently advising their kinsman against a comeback after a gross defeat in the just ended presidential and parliamentary elections.
“John has given his all in politics to the NDC and Ghana and we think it is just fair that we allow him to rest. We were very supportive and instrumental in convincing him to partner Prof. Mills, and when the time came for him to contest for President, we supported and advised him to go for it…now we have advised him not to make a comeback in 2020,” he explained.
The President has been tasked by ECOWAS and the new President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to help other African heads of State to resolve the political impasse in The Gambia.
