Michael Osei set to decline Liberty offer

Former player and assistant coach of Kumasi Asante Kotoko Michael Osei has been in the news in the past few weeks with reports linking him to the vacant post at the Dansoman-based club Liberty Professionals.

After declining to handle the Porcupine’s U-20 following a new administration takeover led by Dr Kwame Kyei, the Executive Board Chairman of the club, has been without a club in the past five months and has been in contact with other premier league clubs for a possible replacement.

With the recent being Medeama and Ashanti Gold but all have failed to materialized.

According to sources close to Ultimatefmonline.com, the former New Edubiase assistant coach is set to turn down the offer of being the head coach for the ‘Scientific Soccer Lads’ with further probing revealing the main cause as the presence of assistant coach Ignatius Osei Fosu.

It can be recalled that after the exit of Didi Dramani from Kotoko in 2015, media reports were ripped that Michael orchestrated and maligned for the former Black Maiden’s coach to be sacked. Something he vehemently denied.

Apparently, Ignatius has been a close ally to Dramani and with Michael sensing their close relationship, he feels they might not get along well and could be undermined during his stay at the club.

Osei was spotted at the Accra Sports Stadium with Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah to watch Hearts of Oak take on WAFA as he has been in Accra in the past few weeks for negotiations.

Liberty on the other hand have churn out series of poor results in the premier league and have been flirting around relegation zone. They are 11th on the league table with 17 points.
