Akufo-Addo honours Delico Chairman for $95m Kumasi Mall investment

President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo- Addo has commended owners of the Kumasi City Mall Delico Properties Co. Ltd. for the entities of over 250 million cedi investments into Ghana through the construction of malls.

The President made the remarks while inaugurating the third of the company’s ultramodern shopping centres, the Kumasi City Mall in the Ashanti regional capital Kumasi.

The 98 million dollar property which was opened last month to an overwhelming reception which is so far the biggest mall in Ghana and West Africa with extra space for expansion works.

Speaking at the royal commissioning which was attended by the Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, members of parliament and business captains, President Nana Addo underscored the business opportunities that the mall opens to the predominantly business oriented city of Kumasi.

“It is an important moment in the growth and development of this vibrant city Oseikrom and I commend the chairman Kofi Sekyere and the other members of the board of directors of Delico Properties Limited for the vision of this construction, the third in the franchise of the company following the West Hills Mall in Weija and the Achimota RETAIL CENTRE in Achimota both in Accra.”

“The Kumasi City Mall has the enviable status of not only being the only mall outside Accra. But it is now also arguably the biggest mall in Ghana and the biggest in West Africa,” the president stated.

Meanwhile Chairman of Delico Property Investments Ghana Ltd owners of the Kumasi City Mall Kofi Sekyere emphasized the growth opportunities the newly commissioned mall presents to the economy of Ghana.

He pointed out “Indeed in 2008 when the country had its first modern shopping centre in Accra Mall, it was evident to one of us that the concept of malls has the potential for growth in Ghana even if such growth would manifest at a rather slow pace.

He also explained that his decision to choose Kumasi for the mall was informed by the economic history of Kumasi and the dynamics of modernity that it has evolved into in recent years.
