Former MCE appeals for a KNUST city campus  for Obuasi

The former Municipal Chief Executive for the Obuasi Municipality has expressed need for the continuation of a project to have a satellite campus of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology to be sited in Obuasi.

According to Richard Ofori Agyeman Boadi, mining giant AngloGold Ashanti and the management of the KNUST already began some negotiations under his watch as MCE to have a campus of the KNUST in the predominantly mining town.

Speaking to Ultimate News, he disclosed that, “the AGA has earmarked its human resource development department at the northern side of the mine which they no longer have need of, for the establishment of the city campus of the University.”

“KNUST is ready to deploy personnel there for us to run Geological programs, business programs and even a medical school there because AGA’s hospital is the second largest hospital in the Ashanti region and one of the hospitals with world class facilities,” he said.

Mr Ofori Agyeman Boadi added that aside the educational opportunities, when the university takes off, some six hundred new direct jobs could be created immediately for the people of Obuasi.
