The Upper West Regional Chairman of the ruling NPP Alhaji Abdul-Rahaman Abubakari has finally made known his desire to contest the National Chairmanship position of the party with the aim of making the position of party executive more attractive to the members.
According to him, more people will be encouraged to take up party executive positions instead of governmental positions if they feel comfortable being executives of the party.
It is common to find executives of the party resigning to take up ministerial or governmental positions anytime their parties are in power and this Alhaji Short as he is popularly called says weakens political parties.
Speaking to Ultimate News’ Musah Lansah on the sidelines of the Nadowli-Kaleo constituency delegates congress on Tuesday at Kaleo, Alhaji Short said,”the reason I want to contest is to make the executive position of the party more attractive. If people feel okay as executives I don’t think they will resign to become ministers. If we are able to do this the party will remain strong to win more elections”.
The regional chairman also pledged to ensure that the Upper West region becomes a strong hold of the ruling NPP.
The region has always being a strong hold of the opposition NDC which won all but 1 out of the 11seats in the 2012 elections. But the ruling NPP managed to snatch 5 of the 11.
