A/R: NASPA Women’s Commission trains service ladies in entrepreneurship

Some five hundred female service personnel in the Ashanti region have been taken through an entrepreneurship activation workshop.

The event was organized by the Women’s Commission of the National Service Personnel Association in the region.

The young graduates were among other things taken through practical skills in soap making, cookery and make up art.

Speaking to Ultimate FM’s Thomas Asamoah on the sidelines of the event, the Ashanti regional Women’s Commissioner, Victoria Dzifa Kusienu indicated that the initiative is to ensure that ladies due to exit the service in the next two months do not add up to the band of unemployed graduates.

“You know that unemployment has become a canker in this country. So for them not to finish service and be found wanting, I organized this programme so they can at least acquire some skills to set up their own businesses if they don’t get jobs,” she said.

Some service personnel who shared their experiences with Ultimate News were confident the skills learnt would help them set out on their own.

“Even as we came for the programme, we have been able to gather a lot of knowledge which will help us to set up our own businesses to employ other people as well,” a participant intimated.

Another participant told Thomas Asamoah, “I was more interested in the makeup artistry and the soap making because it is something you can do even if you are fortunate to get a job somewhere to get extra income to support yourself.”
