A former minister of energy Dr Kwabena Donkor says he feels mistreated over a search conducted by security operatives at his Spintex residence this dawn.
A team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) was today dispatched with a warrant to find documents relating to the Ameri Energy deal for which Dr Donkor is being investigated for causing the nation financial losses to the tune of 150 million dollars.
The team which arrived at the home of the Pru East legislator Monday dawn conducted a couple of searches and finally took away his lap top, computer and pen drives.
Speaking on the Starr Midday News, Dr Donkor insisted that even though the police acted professionally, the approach was wrong.
“Whoever sent them is the one I have issues with because for the first time as a sitting MP, I read on a search warrant that I am a suspect of having caused financial loss. As we Speak, no one has invited me anywhere for any investigation; no one has asked for my explanation on anything and a warrant is obtained from a court on the basis that I am a suspect. I think it is not right,” he fumed.
Asked what would be his next line of action he indicated, ‘I am only an opposition MP so I will allow the powers that be to decide what to do. Besides my conscience is clear, I have nothing to hide and if need be, in court I will proffer my explanations to let the nation judge whether I served the country well or I did not serve the country well.”
He also noted that he would be petitioning the leadership of Parliament to have their take on the administrative processes existent in dealing with a sitting Member of Parliament in matters of this kind.
