Minister for Youth and Sport, Isaac Asiamah has revealed to Ultimate Sports that his administration will review the National Sports Lottery.
The Mahama Ayariga led administration at the Sports ministry and the National Lottery Authority (NLA) in December 2014 launched a National Sports Lottery aimed at raising revenue to invest in basic sports infrastructure, promote the local league, sports in the basic schools, as well as invest in sports medicine, sports media and sports marketing companies but the project wasn’t fruitful.
In addition, it was discussed that some of the money raised will be channel down to the less endowed sporting disciplines.
He said they are going to fine-tune the modalities which were not clearly worked out in the past.
“It’s been reviewed. We’ve sent all those documents before the national sports fund committee to properly go through it. Going forward, sports lottery is a key area we can raise more funding to support sports in general.
“In view of this, we have identify sports lottery as a key areas where much money could be raised to support sports. It happened in the past, but the modalities were not clearly worked out. Now we are going to fine-tune it together with other areas that the technical committee may have identify as possible areas of raising funds,” Hon Isaac Asiamah said.
