The family of the man who was killed by the military anti- galamsey task force has admitted that the deceased Kwabena Agyeman was on the site to do illegal mining.
The operation Vanguard taskforce clashed with illegal miners at Wawasi a community in Obuasi in the Ashanti region leaving one dead in the process.
A brother of the victim Richmond Boadi who spoke to Ultimate News’ Isaac Badiako Justice that their brother had left his job as a driver’s mate to engage in galamsey as the occupation is the mainstay of the area.
“You know in Obuasi, we either work for AngloGold or do galamsey. Where my brother went was an old site of AngloGold. They didn’t have any excavators or equipment there.”
“He was just sweeping to get a few blades of gold. He had even gotten home when he was shot,” he recounted.
The family have given the strong indication they will not press any legal charges against the military even though they insist their deceased kin, was not a violent person.
