Locals Black Stars B and Asante Kotoko defender Awal Mohammed has revealed they are ready to face the Burkinabes on Sunday ahead of the CHAN Qualifiers.
The team wrapped up preparations with a friendly match on Monday against Attram de Visser football academy at the Accra Sports Stadium. With majority of the players sitting out during the game, they lost by three goals to one.
Despite losing marquee players to foreign teams, in a bit to seek greener pastures, the marauding defender believes they can still overcome the Stallions.
“We are ready for them [Burkina Faso] because we didn’t qualify for last year’s edition, so we are doing everything possible to get there,” Awal told Ultimate FM.
Right after playing against Hearts of Oak on Sunday, he together with other players have to regroup at the camping base in Accra to prepare ahead of the game.
Asked whether his performance and work rate won’t be affected by shuffling between club and country, he said;
“It’s good for me because am training under two different coaches. Asante Kotoko and Locals Black Stars have different coaches at the dug-out. The change in environment is also helping me a lot,” he added.
The team missed out on last year’s edition in Rwanda after placing second in the two previous tournaments in Ivory Coast and South Africa in 2009 and 2014.
They will depart to Ouagadougou on Wednesday as they seek to qualify for Kenya 2018.
