Stop using parts of Accra – US Embassy to Americans

The United States Embassy in Ghana has instructed Americans in the country to stop moving around parts of Accra.

The Embassy urged American citizens to review their personal security plans and monitor local news stations for updates.

Portions of a statement on the Embassy’s website said, ‘Review your personal security plans, remain aware of your surroundings, including local events, and monitor local news stations for updates. Be vigilant and take appropriate steps to enhance your personal security and follow instructions of local authorities’.

According to the Embassy, the instruction is borne out of growing crime rates in Avenor Sowutuom, Sukura, Nima, Ashaiman, Agbobloshie and other areas.

Some youth weeks ago went on rampage, vandalised and burnt spare parts worth millions of Ghana cedis at the Articulator Park at Avenor.

The protesters stopped the construction of some stores, claiming the land belongs to them.
