Free SHS: Mamfe Girls’ SHS turns away 400 students over lack of accommodation

Over 400 students have been turned away at Mamfe Methodist Girls SHS in the Eastern region due to lack of capacity to accommodate them.
According to authorities, the school can only accommodate 400 students but over 800 students have been placed in the school by the CSSPS.
Some stranded parents have been sleeping in the school for the past three days.
But the Eastern Regional Minister, Eric Kwakye Darfuor who is on tour to SHSs in the region based on advice by the headmistress asked the over 400 parents and their wards who couldn’t get admission to go home as efforts are being made to address the accommodation challenges.
This infuriated the parents who heckled the regional minister in a confused atmosphere.
The Regional Minister also visited Benkum SHS where 886 students have been placed above the 600 request made to CSSPS but the headmaster of the School, Emmanuel Antwi told the minister, the school will improvise to admit all students placed.
Okuapeman SHS
The Headmaster of Okuapeman SHS, Daniel Afari told the entourage 777 students have been placed and so far over 500 have reported and admitted.
He said the only challenge is inadequate dormitories to accommodate the number of female students seeking boarding facilities.
The headmaster said most GETFUNd projects in the school have been stalled.
The Headmaster of Nifa SHS, Dr.Philip Victor Akoto said the school requested 870 fresh students but 807 has so far been placed.
He said the school has the capacity to take 750 out of the total number as boarders.
