Kente Weavers at Bonwire, Safo and Kasaam in the Kwabre East District in the Ashanti Region are appealing to government for financial support in the form of grants to aid them in their business.
They claim government’s support will attract the needed investors leading to a boom in the industry.
This, they say will curb the growing unemployment rate in the country.
In an interview with Abusua FM’s Osei Kwadwo, some Kente weavers noted that the high cost of raw materials and proliferation of fake Kente clothes on the market is a major challenge affecting the industry.
They are however calling on government to put measures in place to reduce the cost of raw materials and the inferior Kente products smuggled into the country.
The Bonwire Kente Weavers appealed to government to establish a Kente factory in Kwabre East District, where the industry is booming locally.
